Dark Bats and Magical Hats
I looked to the sky as the night filled with
smoke and evil eyes
all of Gotham, teeming with deranged monsters
and awash in blood
I cast an array of hexes and magic spells
that roared with the sounds of thunder and
ringing bells
on my own, I couldn't bring forth the light
until at my side, came the dark knight
striking swift and silent, from shadows deep
besting every thug, monster, and freak
from up on high, descending from the sky
came a warrior clad in the armor of the bat
the greatest hero Gotham has ever known
through the darkest of days and the
witching hour of the night
we stood together, braving the endless fight
as the wicked took Gotham and turned it
to hell on Earth
the innocent bled and cried
the dark knight and I, standing united, waged
the one sided war
a battle that was well worth fighting for
a sorceress, casting spells and magic light
and a warrior, striking terror from the shadows
of the night
with tempered steel and a magic wand
we defeated every thug, monster, and freak
and sent them fleeing back to the shadows deep
dark or day, Gotham will have nothing to fear
watching over, we'll always be here
an ebon winged knight, who's never far
and a sultry sorceress, who casts her magic upon
the stars

The second in my series of poems about a male and female superhero teaming up, this one being about Batman and Zatanna. The two of them actually did team up in the comics/cartoons and the two of them worked real well together. Zatanna would cast her magic while batman would fight physically and with trickery. They're often considered "weak" superheros due to the fact that they don't have many superpowers, although I think that that's bull. Zatanna's magic makes here very formidable, and Batman's formidable skills and wealth of weapons and tools puts him on par with super-powered individuals. In fact, I think that makes them even more amazing, the fact that they can do so much without a lot of superpowers.
Anyway, This poem is from Zatanna's point of view. I often have trouble doing a woman's point of view, but this one came out rather well. I aimed for a dark, but magical feel to it. The knight and sorceress imagery worked incredibly well. In fact, if they ever do a story where they go back to the middle ages, I think Batman would be a knight and Zatanna would be a benevolent sorceress. This poem glorifies batman a bit, but I think it works, considering that Zatanna does have a bit of a thing for him. They're my favorite male/female superhero combo, partly because they go so well together.
